Immediate past candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2019 National Assembly election due for Nasarawa/Toto federal constituency and who is also the consultant with World Health Organization representing Africa, Hon. Chief Abdullahi Ibrahim Aibro, says There’s no cure and vaccine so far found to fight the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic in the country, hence to adhere strictly to health experts advises as to slow down the virus.

According to Aibro, “Scientists have said it is impossible to eliminate the virus, that it has come to stay and will become like any other flu when treatment or vaccine is found”.

He noted that Lockdowns is supposedly made to slow down the spread of the pandemic and not to stop nor eliminate it as some people ignorantly claimed.

He also said there is no justification over what is happening in some states of the federation where there is no single reported index case of the virus and what then is benefits of a lockdown within such states where there’s no virus or even a few cases in those location.

Aibro urged the FG to consider some measures that can maintain, sustain a balance between socio-economic activity and managing a possible outbreak of the virus among which he enlisted below:

1. You can lockdown the borders with other states

2. Within the state, you provide guidelines for social distancing including wearing of masks and personal hygiene while allowing some socio-economic activity in order to avoid economic meltdown.

3. Embark on aggressive awareness campaign on the dangers of the virus at the grassroot level.

4. Encourage local researchers on the modality of the virus so that the people can understand how to fight it and in addition using trado-medicine.

How true about this claim that the virus is being killed by sunlight and heat? If so, can we operate open markets in local communities?

“I see us sitting in lockdowns like lame ducks waiting for the developed world to find a cure or vaccine. Last I recall, the developed world found a treatment for HIV/AIDS that was mostly ravaging Africa but it took so many years of begging including a court case for Africa to have access to the drug! Millions had died already”.
