In the 2024 gubernatorial elections coming up in Edo State, a lot of horse-trading, strategic thinking, manoeuvering and zoning will ensue. All have agreed within the political space that tickets from the 3 major political parties must, as a matter of equity, justice and fairplay, come from Edo Central Senatorial District, which happen to be the home to the homogenous Esan people.
And if those from Edo North and Edo South have unofficially agreed on this point of politically understanding, even if there will be some few who will still wish to test their unpopularity from other zones and other parties, the ball therefore is in the courts of the Esan leaders. They must leave behind the bitter politics of the recent past during the just concluded elections to work in unison as to present an appealing and sellable candidate. The adopted party should be inconsequential at this moment.
From all indications, the youth are ready and are anxiously waiting for this process of aspirant searching. The less aspirants, the more focused attention, the better chance it is for the people of Esan going forward.
It must be noted that after diligent subterranean research, Hon. John Yakubu is one of the candidates that readily comes to mind everywhere. We need not go to books to dig him up; he has a track record of performance and candour. This earned him the position of deputy governorship candidate under PDP then, a resume in his political CV that cannot be wished away. So he is easily a sellable candidate across the 3 senatorial districts without qualms.
Searching for aspirants for elections is the duty of political leaders after due consultation across board. And no doubt, voting rest on the shoulders of the electorates. If a sellable candidate is sort, winning becomes a matter of ease.
