A middle aged man, Alfa Kukuluku, was on Wednesday electrocuted right inside a transformer cage situated at the popular Paparanda square in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.

Eye witnesses revealed that the deceased sneaked in to the transformer cage at about 2 am when there was a power outage by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

While inside the transformer cage to vandalize the equipment and cables, the AEDC suddenly restored power and he got electrocuted.

One of the eye eyewitnesses , who claimed that he knew the deceased vandal, said he is an indigene of Lokoja, from Angwan Masara, a street in the ancient part of the city.

A Senior staff of the electricity distribution company at the scene, who pleaded anonymity told Journalists that, “this is why we always appeal to our consumers to always protect their electrical facilities and transformers.

“If the vandal had made away with the cable, the whole area would have been plunged into darkness for days.

“The AEDC has been spending a lot of money on repair of vandalized equipment and stolen cables.

“If all our installations are well secured, this money would have been spent on buying new equipment and ensuring regular power supply,” the Senior staff said.

All efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for comments failed as he was said to have traveled out on a special assignment.
