FCT indigenous lawyers lauds Tinubu over appointment of Jisalo as minister

The FCT indigenous lawyers forum has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the appointment of native, Zaphaniya Jisalo as minister in his cabinet.

Chairman of the forum, Barrister Atna Kuyembo, who made the commendation at a press briefing in Abuja, on Saturday, said the nomination marked a significant milestone in the natives agitation against marginalization, social, cultural, economic and historical injustices faced by the natives.

He noted that the appointment of FCT native as a member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) is a step towards promoting inclusiveness and equity in the country.

According to him, it is crystal clear without conjuncture that, the FCT is in law a state, which he said was in line with the constitutional provision of section 299 has been the light of the day.

” The FCT lawyers forum commended President Tinubu for upholding the rule of law and adhering to the Court of Appeal decision in the case of late Barrister Musa Baba Panya versus FRN and two others, which recognized the right of the FCT indigenous people to participate in governance at the highest level,” he said.

The forum, further urged the APC led administration of Tinubu to replicate such significant milestone across all the federal government ministries, department and agencies adherence to the federal character principles and reinforcing objectives and directive principles of state policy without forgetting merits and competence.

“And we also urge the national assembly that a federal capital territory indigenes development commission be set up to attend to the peculiar needs of the FCT indigenes,” he said.

Ten forum, who said it remains resolute in its commitment to their objective to support good governance and advancement of federal republic of Nigeria, prayed for the soul of one of the indigenous lawyers, late Barrister Musa Baba Panya, that litigated for an FCT indigene be appointed as minister to continue to rest in peace.
