FCT indigenous students distances self from protest over UniAbuja fees increase

The FCT indigenous students leaders forum have distance itself from purported plan to embark on protest over tuition fees increase by the management of the University of Abuja.

A statement signed by the national coordinator of the forum, Comrade Yunusa Suleiman Ango, which was made available to newsmen in Abuja, on Thursday, said such purported move some by unscrupulous and sponsored group that are masquerading as former students leaders to cause trouble at the university was targeted at denting the image of the indigenous students of the FCT.

He said the forum has it on good authority that the said group of former students leaders are being led by one Gbebga Samson Ogunwole, and sponsored by some forces that are not happy with the unprecedented strides recorded in the last four years under the vice chancellor of the university, Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah.

He said that it is disheartening that such elements would would want to destroy the university for selfish end, saying the increase in tuition fees in tertiary institutions across the country is not new and wondered why that of university Abuja, should be an exception.

He said the forum has it on good authority with concrete evidence that such elements were mobilizing cultists to them carry out the protest.

“Otherwise why ignore the fact that every tertiary institutions in Nigeria has increased school fees running up to million of naira. And why single out UniAbuja to the extent of planing to stage protest in order to tag it on natives of the FCT,” he asked.

The forum, therefore, called on security agencies to closely monitor the activities such group of elements in nipping their evil intention in the bus.
