Flooding: Toto LG Chairman assures victims of State Govt. Intervention as over 17 villages, farmland worth millions destroyed
Worried by recurring flooding in Toto local government area especially Riverine communities, the Executive Chairman of the council, Hon. Aliyu Abdullahi Tashas, led top government functionaries to assessed the situation and on how to rendered immediate assistance to the affected communities.
Hon. Tashas who was ably represented by his Deputy, Hon. Abubakar Haruna Kwanakis visited His Royal Highness, Alhaji Abdullahi Usman, the Ohimegye Opanda paramount ruler of Toto LG.
Tashas said his people are most hit, noting that flood is a natural phenomena, adding that the only way out is for residents to relocate to safer place until when the situation is normal.
He sympathised with the Paramount ruler and described it most unfortunate which has rendered thousands of people homeless and destroyed farmland worth million of naira.
” I am in the picture of what happening in your Kingdom, I will report back to the State for appropriate action. We have a listening Governor and assured you something urgently will be done.”
On his part, the paramount ruler, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi thanked the council boss for his usual support and described the visit as timely.
He appealed to government, organizations, individuals philanthropists and well to do Nigerians to come to the aid of his subjects.
According to him over 17 Villages with virtually all their Farmland and other valuable has been destroyed by the flood.
Earlier at the Chief of Iggi palace who is the chairman of the villages heads within the Riverine areas, Hon Abubakar Haruna Kwanakis leader of the delegation inform the Paramount Ruler the purpose of the tour which is the council magnanimous gesture to always provide succour to her citizenry, ” as a government we will respond to your plight and also report to the appropriate authorities for urgent attention”.
The village Head took us round using local canoes as both secondary school, primary and the only clinic were completely submerged by the flood. He thanked the executive chairman for considering them at this critical period.
Other places visited include; Kanaworo, Ehemkpa, Gbagidigbo and Ogbere respectively with nothing village Heads appealing for food and shelter as same havoc is caused by the flood.
