Ghana’s Former President Mahama Asked To Make The Expansion Of Prisons A Campaign Promise

With few months left for Ghanaians to go to the polls, Journalist and a sympathiser of the National Democratic Congress, NDC in that country, Kofi Adzivor has appealed to former President John Dramani Mahama to make the expansion of prison facilities across the country, a campaign promise, Alhaji Umarh with ghananewsonline.com.gh reports.

Former President John Mahama is flagbearer for the NDC into the 2020 elections in Ghana. In an interview with the media in Accra, Ghana’s capital, Alhaji Umarh reports that, the young NDC man feels ‘the state of our prisons may not be able to contain members of Nana AKufo Addo’s government after December 2020 and therefore must be expanded looking at the magnitude of corruption been recorded under the NPP government’

The latest corruption saga that got the young journalist angered we have learned concerns about the ‘Agyapa Royalties deal’.

A deal reports from the West African country suggest is seen as ‘a cast in stone’ that must be suspended. President of renowned Think Tank, IMANI AFRICA Franklin Cudjoe and a host of others have all asked the Ghananian government to consider suspending the said deal, raising numerous questions and suspicions about the said deal.

Minority leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, expressed shock at the position of the ruling government over the said Agyapa deal in a press conference at the NDC party’s headquarters in Accra, Ghana on tuesday.

According to what we have gathered from Ghana, many have suggested that the December 2020 elections has become unpredictable however Mr Kofi Adzivor has stated ‘nothing would prevent John Dramani Mahama and for that matter the NDC from winning the insuiung elections and therefore has urged members of the Akufo Addo led government to get prepared ‘to dance to the music for the day of reckoning is near’ he said and insisted ‘John Mahama must make the expansion of our prisons a campaign promise’.

He assured of his support towards the former President and his party’s campaign. ‘My team shall soon embark upon a nationwide education program in form of door to door interactions with the people amidst the engagement of social media in a way to explain some of these ‘high level thievery to the people and same… explain the vision of John Mahama to them’

Meanwhile, The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has initiated a programme dubbed the Corruption Tracker series aimed at uncovering all the alleged corrupt deals under the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government in Ghana. The NDC said the tracker will give Ghanaians evidence of failed promises under the Akufo-Addo government.

National Communication Officer of the NDC, Mr Sammy Gyamfi said the tracker will help Ghanaians appreciate how corruption within the Akufo-Addo government is denying them of basic needs.

“As a responsible opposition with the responsibility of keeping government on its toes, the NDC is today embarking on a corruption tracker series to track the status of the countless cases of corruption we have witnessed under the Akufo-Addo government in the last three and half years. Scandals which have occasioned huge financial losses to the state and robbed Ghanaians of the developments they were promised in the year 2016,” he said.

Mr Gyamfi said it would help “Ghanaians appreciate how the corrupt Akufo-Addo government is plundering the already constrained public purse and the extent of damage this government has inflicted on all sectors of the nation.”
