Grassroots Development: Nasarawa Assembly Advocated For Training Of LGC Legislators For Effective Service Delivery

Majority Leader, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Hon. Umar Tanko Tunga, has advocated for effective training and retraining of local government council legislators for quality representation and effective service delivery.

Hon. Tunga (APC-Awe North) made the call on Monday, while playing host to Majority Leaders of the 13 LGA’s in the State who paid him a courtesy visit in his office Lafia, the State capital.

He emphasized that there is the need for adequate administrative arrangement to be put in place for training and retraining of LG lawmakers especially before their inauguration to enable them get the basic knowledge of law making and other legislative practice and representation for good governance at the grassroots.

The House Leader said the state assembly as a law making body would continued to adhere strictly to the rule of law.

He re-emphasized that the tenure of the current Local Government officials ends in April next year adding that it is the issue of law and both the executive and legislature are on the same page.

He made it clear that there was never a time that the Governor write or seek approval of the house to reduce or extend the Local Government elected officials tenure as being  speculated.

“We cannot break the law we made. The house under Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi is focused and committed.

” There was never a time we get signal from executive to terminate your tenure, no any signal in that respect, ” he said.

On the issue of their gratuity Hon Tunga enjoined them to pray for their successful tenure in office before that will come up saying that if government is financially okay it will definitely pay them without delay.

On the issue of their continuity,the house leader said that is the beauty of democracy where people decide their leaders and advised them to do their best so that the stewardship will stands for them.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of Lafia Local Government legislative council, Yakubu Tunga said they were in the Majority Leader’s office to identify with him and also tap from his experience.

They forum has also presented their demands to include training, gratuity and automatic tickets in the forth coming election.
