Kidnapping: Abuja lawmaker wants bandits flushed out of FCT

…As house observes a minute silence for killed victims.

The house of representatives member for Abuja south federal constituency, Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to deploy anti-kidnapping officers of the force to flush out bandits terrorizing and killing residents of the FCT.

Ajiya, made the call on Tuesday, when he moved a motion at the plenary session for an urgent need to address the reoccurring cases of kidnapping and killings of residents of Kwali and Kuje area councils of the territory by armed bandits.

He said the security of lives and property are fundamental responsibility of government at all levels, hence, there was urgent need for a synergy among security agents to tackle cases of armed bandits and kidnapping across the Abuja south federal constituency and FCT at large.

He said it was saddening that bandits reportedly abducted nine people including an immigration three weeks ago and slaughtered them despite the victims relations had paid ransom to their abductors at Kabi forest in Kuje area council of the FCT.

“And aside that, bandits again invaded Yewuti village in Kwali area council in my constituency and abducted six people including father of the incumbent vice chairman of Kwali, while one person was shot dead during the attack two weeks ago,” he said.

He added that eight women including a wife of the village chief of Gwombe in Kuje area council of the FCT in his constituency were abducted by bandits within the same week, a situation, he said has been fear among residents of his constituency.

According to him, the urgent call for government intervention became necessary, which he said people of his constituency now live in constant fear of being attacked by bandits while on their farms and even at home.

He said the incessant bandits attack has adversely affected the socio-economic lives of the people in the various area councils of the FCT, adding that such attack has further worsened the food security crisis not only in FCT but across the country.

“Besides, it is on this premise that a I am worried by the worsening insecurity situation in the nation’s capital, which should be of a great concern to all of us and it is expected that this situation is tackled holistically,” he said.

Ajiya, also called on security agents to intensify efforts towards rescuing the abducted victims who are still being held hostage and reunite them with their families.

Our correspondent report that the house members stood up to observed a minute silent for those that were killed by the bandits.
