The general voters apathy witnessed during the State Houses of Assembly elections across Kogi state has been attributed to the grandiose defeat suffered by the opposition political parties.

In Kogi state, the election was for the State Assembly only as the governorship election has been slated for November, 2023.

Kogi state Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources Engineer Abubakar Bashir Gegu told Journalists on Saturday in Gegu Beki after his tour of polling units in his Kogi local government constituency.

He explained that prior to the Presidential and National Assembly elections, the opposition parties were full of hope of winning the elections and came out with full force to dislodge the ruling APC, but were disappointed.

“In fact, they became very weak and demobilised after they couldn’t dislodge APC. They have completely lost hope to contest this House of Assembly election.

“In virtually all the 21 local government areas of Kogi state, you could see general apathy simply because the opposition parties shy away from the polls.

“Even though we are not happy about the low turnout of voters in this Assembly election, we are optimistic of clearing or winning all the 25 Assembly seats in the state.

The Commissioner, however expressed joy that the election was conducted smoothly, peacefully and successfully devoid of any rancor across the state..

He also attributed the victories of the ruling party in the state to performance of the Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello whose wonderful and glorious performance in the past seven years has endeared him to the electorate.

Engnr Gegu who described Bello as a unique leader, called on the people of the state to continue to give their unalloyed support to his administration.
