Kogi Distributes Malaria Drugs, Medical Items To 21 LGAs.
Idris Ahmed, Lokoja.
Kogi state government has distributed malaria drugs and other medical items to the 21 local government areas aimed at tackling the killer disease at the grassroots.
Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftainship Affair, Barrister Salami Ozigi, who was represented by Director Technical services of the ministry,
Mr Arome Alfa, to kick start the distribution exercise on Monday, said it was a demonstration of the commitment of the state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello to kick out malaria fever from Kogi state.
He said the Governor has always place high priority to the health needs of the people and the reason for the administration to embark on projects that are geared towards the tackling of health challenges across the state.
According to the Governor, the local governments have adopted the policy by procuring treated mosquito nets, drugs and other medical items to be distributed free of charge in order to reduce the contacts with mosquitoes so as to improve the health status of the citizens.
He therefore commended the efforts of 21 local governments for embarking on the lofty project which is the responsibility of government to address the needs of the people.
” There is no doubt that with this project, prevalence of malaria in most rural communities will be reduced to the minimum”, the Commissioner stated.
While warning that government would not condone a situation where drugs and other medical items are being diverted or sold contrary to the purpose intended, he equally advised handlers of the programme to complement the efforts of the government by ensuring that the items are judiciously utilised.
The occasion was attended by Directors of the 21 local governments, traditional rulers, women and youth organisation and top government officials.
