Nine members of the Kogi state vigilante services have been arrested by the police for torturing a suspect to death.
The incident which occurred on Monday at Ofabo in Ofu local government area of the state, was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya .
He told our correspondent on Tuesday in Lokoja that one man suspected the victim simply identified as John ,of allegedly stole some items belonging to him.
Eye witnesses however told Daily Times that an Igbo man reported to
head of the Kogi state vigilance services that the suspect whose name could not be immediately ascertained stole his N200,000.
The head of the vigilante therefore ordered that the suspect be tortured under his supervision until the victim gave up the ghost.
According to him, “An Igbo man alleged that his N200,000 was stolen and he reported to the state chairman of the community vigilance service .
The police also confirmed that shops were razed in a repraisal attack that followed the killing , while Nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
The PPRO said that the command has commenced full invesigation in to the incident.
