Maikaya Foundation Cup: “In Football, No Tribe, No Religion, it Unites” – Says Nasarawa Health Commissioner, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya
Sports have been described as a unifying factor that deserves attention at all levels.
Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Pharmacist Ahmed Baba Yahaya, stated this in an interview with Newsmen at the final of the second edition of the Maikaya Development Foundation Cup played in the sports field of Toto West, Toto Local Government Area of the State.
Pharm. Ahmed Yahaya said football, being the most common sport, has over the years played a significant role in uniting the people.
“When it comes to sports, especially football, no one talks of religion or the tribe one hails from, football helps in uniting people
“Usually, the spectators are more than the players on the pitch and that is exactly what we have witnessed here in Toto at this competition
“The population is very massive and we can see the joy on the faces of everyone, that is what football does, it brings happiness too,” he said.
He pointed out that sports also has health benefits as it helps nourish and increase the functionality of the body organs and the entire system.
The Nasarawa State Health Commissioner commended the Grand Patron of the Foundation, Alhaji Muhammed Musa Maikaya for his initiatives geared towards engaging the youths positively.
Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya added that there was no better achievement in life than impacting the lives of others positively, calling on the Grand Patron of the Foundation to sustain his philanthropic gesture.
The finals of the Maikaya Foundation Cup, saw Kolo Football Club overpower No Shaking FC with a lone goal.
The football competition featured trophies, medals and cash presentations to the winning teams as Officials, security personnel and other individuals also received medals from the Foundation.
