As Nigerians continue to groan over difficulty to access the redesigned naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed the stance of the presidential candidates of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) describing them as “pro-vulgar rich of the country while the candidate of the APC is pro-poor”.

The APC chieftain, Mr. John Mayaki, who hailed governors under the platform of the APC, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, the Presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, former Governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole among others over their positions on the sufferings of Nigerians as occasioned by the implementation of the redesigned Naira notes said, “these patriotic Nigerians must be commended for defending ordinary Nigerians over scarcity of the redesigned Naira notes”.

Mayaki who is the Chairman of the Edo State Media and Publicity Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), said, “those of us in Edo State APC commend those who stood with the poor in this period of adversity especially those who visited the President and advocated that the poor implementation on Naira redesign policy should have human face than the hardship ordinary Nigerians are currently experiencing”.

“Understandably”, Mayaki said, “Somebody has to stand up for the vulgar rich – this is what the candidates of the PDP and Labour Party, Alh. Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi among others represent – they have all ganged up with some ‘Cabals’ and the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele who lost out of the APC presidential primary contest to impoverish the ordinary Nigerians but we are glad that our leaders have also risen in defence of the poor and have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider the uncoordinated implementation of the policy on Naira redesign which has led to scarcity and hardship in the economy.

“First, we appreciate the position of Northern APC governors who have insisted that after President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, power must return to the South come 2023. We also appreciate their counterparts from the South especially Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike who not only insisted on power shift to South but have also lend his voice to the implementation of the controversial currency redesign which he termed “anti-people”.

According to Governor Wike, “the new notes are not there. Even when I have money in my account I cannot get 10,000. I cannot get fuel. Who is weeping, is it not the masses? Is it not the people? This is anti-people”, he said. This is how you know those who have the interest of the masses at heart”.

Continuing, Mayaki said, “The efforts of the APC Governors is salutary – these are leaders who feel the pains of their people and who cannot sit in the comfort of their offices and pretend all was well. Even while Godwin Emefiele agreed that the policy implementation was adversely affecting his own family but for his selfish political agenda, he prefers to be on the side of the vulgar rich to punish the poor of the poor. This is what the APC governors cannot stand and we salute them for their pro-people disposition and courage.

“And for the Deputy Director General of the APC presidential campaign council, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Edo people commend you once again for always standing with the people. Comrade, Nigerians are proud of you and they have expressed themselves across all social media platforms after your interview on Channels TV yesterday. You spoke their minds on the currency redesign and the unrest it was already and still generating across the country. You’re a nationalist and a patriot.

“The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila is another patriotic Nigerian and one who has made the APC the pride of Nigerians – his intervention in the protracted crisis between the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the federal government speaks volumes – we commend his wisdom.

“The Speaker also demonstrated leadership over the unmitigated failure of the CBN’s Naira redesign – real and dire consequences on the ability of Nigerians to conduct business across the country. The Speaker recognises that the common man on the streets bear the brunt of Emefiele’s burden. And to further demonstrate this, he threatened to sign an arrest warrant on the CBN Governor among other Bank directors on the need to honour the invite from the House of Representatives to explain why Nigerians must go through excruciating pains and frustration to access their money.

“These pro-masses APC stalwarts and the Rivers State Governor have stood for Nigerians in their difficult and trying moments and must be commended. Their support for the candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima is an indication of what to expect when voted into power come February 25th 2023. These are men of courage determined to rekindling our hopes that all is not lost – we commend them”.
