The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday said it would continue to initiate bills and pass resolutions that would promote unity and peaceful co-existence in the state.
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi stated this when Global Peace Development visited the House to commemorate International Day of Peace today in Lafia, the State capital.
The speaker, represented by Hon Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, the Chairman, House Committee on Information said that the importance of peace to human and societal development could not be overemphasized, hence the need of the assembly’s continued readiness to promote peace at all times.
” We members of Nasarawa State House of Assembly are doing our best in promoting peace in the state.
” We have initiated bills and pass resolutions that enhance peace across the state.
” We will continue to maintain and sustain peace through legislative instrument considering the importance of peace to societal development.
” As peace is priceless an non- negotiable and it is the necessary requirements for the development of every society,” he said.
He said that the House will continue to synergize with the executive in the area of peace promotion among others for development to thrive in the state noting that the State Youth Development Commission Bill before the house which has passed second reading will soon be passed into law.
Earlier, Mr Ebruke Onajite Esike, the Executive Director, Global Peace Development has solicited for the speedy passage of the bill for a Law to establish the Nasarawa State Youth Development Commission.
” Which is now in second reading under your leadership and watch since 2020.
“Let’s arm our youths with education, skills and structures to support their goals and see Nasarawa State flourish beyond our expectation devoid of radicalization and violent extremism and imbibing the culture of peace,” he said.
He said that the commission has trained and provided start-up kits for 750 youths on different skills of their choice.
” Ranging from tailoring, phone repair, hair dressing, shoe making , bag making and many more,” he said.
The executive director has commended the House for its doggedness in championing the cause of youths in the state.
