Nasarawa Assembly lauds Gov. Sule’s efforts in education sector sets to work on bill to regulate operation of private schools.

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has lauded Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his administration’s efforts in initiating good education policies and programmes for improved standard of education in the state.

Hon Daniel Ogazi, the Chairman of the Committee gave the commendation when the management of the Ministry of Education, Isah Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia and Scholarship Board appeared before the committee on their 2023 budgets defence today in Lafia.

Ogazi said that Gov. Sule’s efforts in the education sector is yielding positive results in schools across the state.

” The Commissioner of Education told us that there was improvement in WAEC performance, we give God the glory.

” She also said that our boarding schools are secured as the importance of security to students and staff as well as learning cannot be overemphsized,” he said

” We as committee will give all the necessary support to you to succeed due to the importance of education.

” With good and quality education, we can address some challenges facing the state and society at large,” he said.

The committee assured Gov. Sule of effective collaboration in order to address the challenges facing the education sector in the state.

Earlier, Hajiya Fatu Sabo, the Commissioner for Education,has expressed her appreciation to the Committee for being up and doing to ensure improved standard of education in the state.

” I also want to thank His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule for placing premium and for his passion for the education sector in the state.

” As Education is the bed rock of every society.

” I want to inform this committee that most courses in our higher institutions have been accredited.

” And there was improvement in WAEC performance as our boarding schools are secured across the state.

” Sir, we will bring a bill for the regulation of private schools in the state and we want to request your assistance in that direction,” she said.

The commissioner said that the state government has planned to repair and rehabilitate schools across the state in 2023.

Also, Dr Justina Kotso, the Rector, Isah Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia while defending the institution’s 2023 budget said that there was full accreditation of courses at the Polytechnic.

” Honourable members, what we have achieved in the school today was as a result of His Excellency, Engr Abdullahi Sule passion for the education sector and your support to the Polytechnic

” We will continue to appreciate your efforts and thank you for always be on our side for the overall development of the Polytechnic,” she said.

The Rector also said that the Polytechnic has 10 sets backlog of convocation.

” I want to appeal to you that the budget for the combined convocation of 10 sets is inadequate.

” We appeal to you for your usual assistance in the interest of the Polytechnic and for the overall development of the state,” she said.

On her part, Hajiya Sa’a datu Yahaya , the Executive Secretary of the state scholarship Board appreciated Gov. Sule and the committee for giving attention to bursary allowance of the students.

She, however, identified lack of operational vehicles, lack of office accommodation, irregular release of bursary allowance, overhead as some of the challenges facing the board, a request in which the Committee promised to look into.
