NOA Urges Kogi Traditional Rulers To Sensitise Subject’s On FOIA.

Traditional rulers in Kogi State have been enjoined key in to the fight against corruption and dissemination of fake news in Nigeria by using the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to demand transparency, accountability and correct information on government activities from leaders at all levels.

Kogi State Director, National Orientation Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Othman Abdullah gave the advice on Tuesday while on an Advocacy and Sensitization visit to the Ohimege Igu of Koton-karfe, His Royal Majesty, Alhaji Abdulrazak Sani Isa-Koto in his palace in KotonKarfe.

The Director revealed that results from the monitoring and evaluation of the use of FOIA carried out by National Orientation Agency revealed that the Act is not being adequately exploited by the people.

He urged traditional rulers to sensitize their subjects on the benefits of the Act and encourage them to play their part by making maximum use of the opportunity the Federal Government has provided through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to fight corruption and the spread of fake news in the country.

While thanking NOA for its continuous sensitisation efforts, particularly to his palace, the Royal father acknowledged the benefits of the FOIA and the need for all and sundry to use it as a weapon to discourage all forms of corruption and spread of fake news.

The Monarch appealed to the Federal, State and Local Governments to finance NOA more to enable them carry out their responsibility of propagating this policies and programmes of the Government.
