While the nation is faced with protests demanding “End SARS”, Kogi based Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) on Thursday staged a protest demanding end to insecurity across the country.

The protesters who marched through the streets of Lokoja, the state capital , also addressed pressmen at the NUJ .

Coordinator and leader of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), Mallam Idris Yakubu, said the hurting problems of Nigeria does not end with SARS, but with general insecurity, citing cases of Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery and several violent criminal activities .

The group said its members across the country are protesting because of the ceaseless violent crimes that have enveloped the whole northern parts of the country without any tangible solution made by the government.

” To scrap SARS and create SWAT does not make any difference as far as we are concerned, they are the same people wearing the same uniform with different badges, who have failed to combat all violent crimes against Nigerians”.Mallam Yakubu stated.

He said that the scrapping of the dreaded police squad (SARS), was not enough as almost all security agencies are culpable in the insecurity situation of the country.

According to the Coordinator, “While some discharge their duties diligently, some commercialise, sabotage and even engage in criminal activities. To save this country, a thorough overhaul of the whole system should be carried out.”
