NUT Nat’l body, States’ chapters throw wights behind APC Guber candidate in Kogi
The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, across the country have added their voices to the support of the candidate of Kogi State All Progressives Congress, APC, and its running mate for the November 11th election, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo and Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo.
Addressing newsmen shortly after a stakeholders meeting held at the NUT House Lokoja, the State capital, Thursday, the State Secretary of the Union, Comrade Ibrahim Kadara said the union unanimously endorsed the Kogi State APC flag bearers ahead the upcoming election in the State.
Kadara said the meeting attracted the presence of noble personalities within and outside the State, including the NUT National President, Comrade Titus Abba who double as deputy president of Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, Kogi State Deputy Governorship candidate of the APC, Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo, NUT States chairmen from Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Yobe, Nasarawa, Niger as well as executives of NUT from both state and LG levels.
He explained that the Union is overwhelmed by the development as it present a rare and unique opportunity for a classroom teacher and Comrade to serve at the apex level in the State.
According to him, the Union would be able to take a bold step to champion the interest of their members if one of their own is elected as the deputy governor.
The State Secretary maintained that good things have started coming their ways, citing the recent increment of teachers salaries at the local government level from 35 to 55 percent as a good omen to the union.
He called on members of the union particularly teachers across the state to fully support the APC candidates in order to actualise the rare and golden opportunity presented to the union.
The NUT scribe expressed deep appreciation for the thoughtfulness of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing palliatives to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, Governor Yahaya Bello and members of his cabinet for the prompt distribution of palliatives in the State.
