We members of PDP United Front, Edo State Chapter, read with bemusing awe a press release purportedly signed by Rt. Hon. Tunde Akogun, Senator Yisa Briamoh, Senator Victor Kassim Isa Oyofo, Dr. Chief Mike Oghiadomhe and High Chief Raymond A. Dokpesi, under the pseudo PDP Political Elders of Edo North Senatorial District titled AT TIMES LIKE THIS.

In the release, the self acclaimed elders urged, without appeal, members of the PDP to remain united, and went on to “condemn in the strongest terms any suggestion by some PDP Elements to work for or join the APC, or any other Party”.

A statement issued and Signed by Lawani Onimisi, PDP United Front, Edo State Chapter, said the totalitarian order by the elders is an anti-democratic tendency readily available to discount from the people the ritual rights of choice.

How can these elders stay in the comfort of their homes after the issue of candidacy within PDP in Edo State ran its full course to the Supreme Court then come out with the deception of ‘no victor no vanquished’ mantra?

Where were these elders when other leaders were negotiating for peaceful resolution using the instrumentality of the PDP mechanism to resolve the impasse, which failed?

The truth is; these elders do not speak for PDP but for themselves, they must face the assigned reality at present.

In democracy, every single individual has the unwavering right to make its political choice as to who to support and vote for. And every member of PDP in Edo State, particularly Edo North, will be allowed without restrain, to exercise this freedom of political choice.

For the avoidance of doubt, we have only one leader known to members of the Legacy PDP, which our aforementioned group is subscribed to. We know our leader, and at the appropriate time, when the time is ripe, we shall take directives from him.
