Worried by the high maternal morbidity and mortality rate before and during birth, the Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Smart Adeyemi has flagged off Healthcare Insurance scheme for 1000 pregnant women in the seven local government areas of his constituency.
The flag off ceremony was held at the Lokoja local government Primary Health Care clinic, in the state capital, attended by critical stakeholders from the senatorial district on Tuesday.
Senator Adeyemi said that the intervention on the health condition of pregnant women became imperative to compliment the efforts of the State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in the health care delivery to the residents of the State.
He explained that the health insurance scheme will cover the pregnant women from ante natal to delivery and therefore called on pregnant women in his constituency to come out and register for the scheme.
The Senator who expressed shock over the high morbidity and mortality rate among pregnant women in the country, urged women to register with the scheme so as to access free ante natal tests, treatments and drugs throughout the period of pregnancy.
While also promising that the next healthcare insurance scheme would be for the aged who have attained age 70 and above, Senator Adeyemi, said the gesture is as a result of being motivated by the State government establishing Kogi Primary Health Insurance programme.
He equally assured that by October 2021 he will revive the School bursary for the indigent of Kogi West students in tertiary institutions.
Adeyemi also seized the opportunity to appeal to all the aggrieved party faithful who felt slighted during just concluded Ward Congresses of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kogi State, appealed to all party men and women to forgive and forget and come together as one family.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade commended the initiative of Senator Adeyemi for having pregnant women on mind at crucial stage of their pregnancy
Ayoade therefore called on other lawmakers both at the state and federal levels and all political office holders to emulate the good gesture of Senator Smart Adeymi who she described the man of the masses.

The occasion was nearly dispersed by the late arrival of the Chairman of Lokoja local government council, Hon Muhammed Dan Asabe Muhammed, who stormed the venue in a commando style with hundreds of youths, shouting and chanting strange, but frightening slogans.
The invited guests who scampered for safety, were later calmed down and returned to their seats as all believed it was an invasion by bandits.

Prominent politicians, top government officials who attended the ceremony were visibly shaken and embarrassed as some nearly flee to avoid any attack from unknown hoodlums.
