TODA Holds Maiden Carnival, Egbira, Tiv, Hausa/Fulani Emerged Winners

It was an amazing cultural display at the Maiden Carnival Day/Award Presentation organized by the Toto Development Association (TODA) in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State as the Association took the bull by its horn to revive the culture of the people of the Area.

The Kanuris, Nupes, Gbagyis, Tivs, Igbos, Hausa/Fulanis, Egbiras, and Gade were dressed in various gorgeous local attires, showcasing their rich culture as they took turns to dance to the admiration of the audience.

The panel of judges of the event who were selected based on their vast experience in their profession headed by Mr. Idris Ahmed a Journalist by profession adjudged the Egbira cultural troop as a winner of the Maiden TODA Carnival.

This, the judges said followed the manner the Egbiras showcased their local attires, dance steps, beats, and most importantly, their local meal during their performance which gave them an edge over others who only displayed their attires and dance steps.

The Tiv and Hausa/Fulani cultural groups emerged first and second runners up respectively after they put up a superb display on the stage to the awe of all and sundry.

In an interview with the Ohinoyi Ogye, Toto LG, HRH, Alhaji Muhammed Azaki, described the Carnival as historic.

“Since I ascended the throne, this is the first time that something of this nature, where the different tribes in this area will be called upon to showcase their rich culture

“I am so happy to see this happening in my lifetime, putting plans together to revive our culture, it gives me joy,” he said.

He commended TODA for her efforts at organizing the event, noting that it will go a long way at showcasing the culture of the people of the Area to the World.

The Ohinoyi Ogye stressed that culture was important in the development of society, calling on the people to embrace their culture and always be proud of it wherever they found themselves.

The traditional ruler called for the sustenance of the Carnival, pointing out that the Maiden edition has served as a litmus that will help improve on the subsequent editions.

National President of TODA, Dr. Muhammed Musa Maikaya in an address said the event was put together to foster the bond of unity between the various ethnic groups in the Area.

Dr. Maikaya who is a former governorship aspirant pointed out that the event also creates an avenue for the people to coexist peacefully, stressing that it will also serve as a tool that will bring about the rapid development of the Area.

The Ciroma of Toto Local Government Area appreciated the people for availing themselves, saying the Association will not relent its efforts at reviving the culture that is inherent in the Area.

On his part, National Secretary of TODA, Barrister Labaran Magaji, Mattawalle Toto, who was elated with the performances of the various groups noted that the event was just a tip of the eyes berg, promising that more will be experienced in the days ahead.

The legal luminary affirmed that culture helps in uniting the people, expressing optimism that the Association will do more at bringing the culture of the people of the Area to the limelight.

Barr. Magaji who doubles as the federal prosecutor in the Federal Ministry of Justice is vying for the Nasarawa west Senate seat thanked those who contributed to the success of the event.

The event featured Award Presentation to deserving individuals who distinguished themselves at impacting society and the people positively, an Award Presentation to winners of the cultural Carnival, among others.
