We are grateful to Tinubu/Shettima over Makurdi street lights — Pro-democracy Group

As a pro-democracy group which champions the interest of people, we wish to commend the Vice-President, His Excellency Kashim Shettima for the commencement of work on the installation of solar powered street lights within Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

We understand that the project is part of the current federal government’s initiative to light up industrial clusters across the country. This is an indication that the President Bola Tinubu administration is on a journey of rekindling the flames of enterprise across the country.

In a statement issued by Amos Uchiv, President, Defenders of Democracy, DoD

Vice President Shettima who is directly in charge of the lighting projects across the country spoke on the importance of the project on 12th October this year during his visit to the Agbara Industrial Cluster for the launch of a collaboration between the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) and its partners on the project to light up industrial clusters in Nigeria.

The VP said on that occasion that:

“We have gone a full cycle in the search for solutions to our energy crisis. We have unbundled and privatized the power assets in generation, transmission and distribution. We have also implemented the National Integrated Power Project through the NDPHC.”

Defenders of Democracy, DoD is highly impressed with the level of work so far done to install the solar powered street lights on major streets of Makurdi. This initiative will no doubt illuminate the city and help in curbing crime.

We equally commend our son, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume for constantly facilitating the execution of federal projects in his home state Benue. Senator Akume has indeed proven that he is a great leader who is not distracted or discouraged by the campaign of calumny fiercely waged against him by the present government of Benue State.

We caution the Benue State Government to desist from taking credit on projects that are neither their initiative nor being funded by them. When the solar powered street lights projects began, we read stories sponsored by the Alia government claiming that it is the one carrying out the project. Now that it has become public knowledge that this is a federal government-sponsored project, we expect that the earlier misconception about it will end.

We appeal to President Tinubu and his Vice to direct the government information organs to always promptly inform Nigerians whenever the government has started a project in any state to prevent mischief makers from taking glory over what they know nothing about.
