A former Okene local government chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Karaku, popularly known as Obama, has declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, dismissing allegations linking him to past crises in Ebira land.

Karaku, while addressing supporters, said his track record in office reflects his commitment to development and inclusiveness, noting that he facilitated the establishment of offices for several federal parastatals that previously had no presence in his area.

“I care for my people and I recognize all stakeholders. I believe in leadership without sentiments because no one knows what tomorrow holds,” he stated.

Responding to allegations that he played a role in the unrest experienced in Ebira land during his tenure as local government chairman, Karaku denied any involvement, insisting that the crisis predated his administration.

“The crisis in question was already on ground when I assumed office. I was not the cause of any crisis in Ebira land. Anyone interested in the facts can engage me publicly, as I have documents to support my position,” he said.

He further challenged his critics to substantiate claims of wrongdoing, including allegations of violence leveled against him.

“I have never had issues with anyone directly in my life. I am not a killer and have never taken a life. Anyone with such claims should come forward with evidence,” Karaku added.

The aspirant also recounted past experiences of alleged false accusations against him, including a claim that he was once framed in connection with the death of a soldier, which led to his arrest and detention for over two months.

According to him, the incident had severe personal consequences, including the loss of close family members during the period.

Despite what he described as sustained blackmail, Karaku expressed gratitude, saying it had inadvertently increased public awareness about him.

He, however, maintained that truth would ultimately prevail, adding that those spreading falsehoods would be judged accordingly.
