A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Musa Muhammed Maikaya, has explained the rationale behind Governor Abdullahi Sule’s endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as the party’s preferred consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 election.

Maikaya made the clarification on Saturday at his residence in Toto, where coordinators from Toto, Umaisha, and Gadabuke districts, alongside party leaders, gathered to deliberate on the party’s next steps.

Addressing the stakeholders, Maikaya revealed that all APC governorship aspirants, including himself, had earlier met with Governor Sule and other key stakeholders, where they collectively agreed to support whoever emerged as the party’s candidate.

He noted that while efforts were made to arrive at a consensus among the aspirants, the governor ultimately settled for Senator Wadada, a decision he said must be accepted in good faith.

The geologist emphasized that leadership is determined by divine will, stressing that the choice of Wadada should be seen as ordained rather than imposed.

He commended his supporters and campaign team for their maturity and calm in handling the development.

Reflecting on his political journey, Maikaya recalled contesting for the Nasarawa/Toto Federal Constituency seat in 2003 and the governorship in 2019, noting that while he did not succeed in those bids, he remained grateful for the opportunities.

He added that his decision to join the 2027 governorship race was informed by the expiration of the current administration’s tenure and the need to give his constituency a chance at leadership, being among those yet to produce a governor in the state.

Maikaya also dismissed claims that the Sule administration had neglected Toto Local Government Area, highlighting key projects and initiatives such as the ongoing 48-kilometre Umaisha–Toto road, improved security of lives and property, upgrading of traditional institutions, and the appointment of indigenes into key government positions.

He used the occasion to call on his supporters and kinsmen to remain united and work towards the success of the APC, Governor Sule, and Senator Wadada in the forthcoming primary election.

The meeting was attended by prominent party figures, including the APC Chairman in Toto Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Salihu aka White Lion, the Executive Chairman of Toto LGA, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya, former APC Chairman of the council and current State Assistant Auditor, Shuaib Ahmed Katuka, as well as other state and local government appointees from across the districts.
