Profile: Barr. Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku — A Life of Service, Law and Leadership

Hon. Chief (Barr.) Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku is a seasoned legal practitioner, administrator and politician whose career has spanned decades of public service and professional excellence.
Born on February 18, 1966, Barr. Tanko hails from Osuku Community in Koton-Karfe, within Koton-Karfe South East Ward of Kogi Local Government Area of the State.
He was born into the family of Alhaji Musa Suleiman Osuku and Mallama Aishat Musa.
He began his educational journey at LSMB Primary School, now Central Primary School, Koton-Karfe, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1980.
He proceeded to Government Secondary School (now Government Science Secondary School), Koton-Karfe, from 1980 to 1986, where he earned his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate.
In pursuit of higher education, he attended the School of General Studies, affiliated with Bayero University Kano, between 1987 and 1988, before gaining admission into the Faculty of Law of the same institution.

Between 1988 and 1992, he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons), graduating with a Second Class Upper Division.
He subsequently attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, from 1992 to 1993, where he was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Barr. Tanko undertook his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra State, serving with Shallom Chambers, Nnewi, between 1993 and 1994.
His outstanding performance earned him an award as the best corps member during his service year.
He began his legal career at the Chambers of Aliyu Saiki & Co., Okene, where he practised from 1994 to 1999.
His expertise later earned him an appointment as Legal Adviser to the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, a position he held from 1999 to 2003.
Thereafter, he joined A. O. Musa & Co. Law Firm, also known as The Peoples’ Chambers, where he practised law from 2003 until May 2016.
During this period, he rose to prominence within the legal community, serving as Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lokoja Branch, from 2011 to 2013.
Barr. Tanko has also maintained an active political career, having been involved in the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and now the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He served as Federal Constituency Director of Campaign for Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello in Lokoja/Kogi-Koton-Karfe Federal Constituency.
In recognition of his dedication and loyalty, he was appointed Administrator of Kogi Local Government Area on May 6, 2016, and sworn into office on May 9, 2016.
Following the completion of his tenure in 2020, he was appointed Senior Special Assistant on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to the Governor of Kogi State, a role he held for seven months.
He was subsequently appointed Chairman of the Kogi State Civil Service Commission, serving from 2020 to 2025.
In a further testament to his competence and integrity, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo reappointed him to the same position, which he currently occupies.
Widely regarded as diligent, prudent and dependable, Barr. Tanko has built a reputation for excellence in every assignment entrusted to him.

In recognition of his contributions to community development and traditional institutions, he has been conferred with numerous traditional titles within and beyond the Koton-Karfe Kingdom.
These include Dan Masani of Koton-Karfe Kingdom, Waziri Daudu of Onumaye, Makama Dogwo of Osuku, Dan Galadima of Girinya, Gwarzo of Gegu Beki, Wambai of Lagbetta, Ondaki Ireku of Ogye (Toto), Ondaki Ireku of Ogate, Sodangi of Hausa in Koton-Karfe Kingdom, Barde of Opanda, and Garkuwa of Mozum.
Notably, he remains one of the few leaders to have received such a wide array of traditional honours across different communities.
Barr. Muhammed Tanko Musa Osuku is married and blessed with children.
