The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Headquarters, has commended the Federal Government and the Nasarawa State Government for their ongoing investments in infrastructure development across tertiary institutions in the country.

The commendation was made on Tuesday during an educational summit organized by NANS at the GST Hall of the College of Education, Akwanga.

The summit, which focused on study skills, goal-setting, and strategies for maximizing opportunities in tertiary education, brought together students, academic stakeholders, and student leaders from various departments of the institution.

Speaking at the event, the National Secretary-General of NANS, Comrade Anzaku Shedrack, said the initiative was designed to equip students with practical knowledge on academic planning, effective time management, and how to make the most of their educational experience.

According to him, while government investment in educational infrastructure remains crucial, students must also develop the right mindset, discipline, and study habits to achieve academic success.

He noted that the summit was part of NANS’ broader efforts to promote academic excellence and personal development among Nigerian students.

Participants were exposed to sessions on effective reading techniques, examination preparation, leadership development, and other essential skills required for academic and personal growth.

Also speaking, the Nasarawa State Students Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, Comrade Umar Yusuf, lauded the educational initiative and praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abdullahi Sule for prioritizing education through sustained investment in infrastructure.

He observed that improved facilities in schools have created a more conducive learning environment for students and enhanced the quality of education.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the Provost of the College of Education, Akwanga, Dr. Best Nuhu Barau, and several other distinguished personalities in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the development of the education sector.

Speaking on behalf of the students, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the College, Comrade Musa Godiya Ayiwuku, described the summit as an eye-opening experience.

He said the programme had helped students gain a better understanding of the true purpose of higher education and provided practical guidance on improving their academic performance.

Ayiwuku urged participants to share the knowledge acquired during the summit with their colleagues who were unable to attend, stressing that the benefits of the programme should extend across the campus community.

The organizers disclosed that NANS would continue to replicate similar educational programmes in tertiary institutions nationwide as part of efforts to strengthen students’ academic performance, leadership capacity, and overall personal development.
