DIG Fayoade Begins South-West Tour in Ibadan, Assures Swift Tech-Assisted Rescue of Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren, Teachers9
Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology and the South-West zone, DIG Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has kicked off his regional security tour in Ibadan with a focus on stronger collaboration, modern policing tools, and public confidence.
The tour opened Tuesday with courtesy calls on Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. Talks centered on building closer ties between the Nigeria Police Force, state government, traditional institutions, and local communities to promote peace and sustainable development.
While meeting Governor Makinde, DIG Fayoade praised the state government’s support for security agencies and stressed the need for continuous intelligence sharing, community policing, and cooperation among security agencies. He said such partnerships are key to sustaining peace in Oyo State and across the South-West.
At the Olubadan’s Palace, the DIG recognized the role of traditional rulers in grassroots security and conflict management. Oba Ladoja commended the Police for their efforts in maintaining order and pledged the palace’s continued support for a safer Ibadan and South-West.
Later at the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, DIG Fayoade addressed senior officers and men on discipline, professionalism, and intelligence-driven policing. He gave assurance that the Force is using advanced technology to secure the release of pupils and teachers abducted recently in Oriire Local Government Area.
“Advanced technical tools are already in use for the rescue operation. We are working to ensure the pupils and teachers return home alive and unharmed. It is a matter of time,” the DIG said.
He noted that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu, mandated all DIGs to carry out nationwide tours to assess operations, engage personnel, and strengthen public trust in policing.
The DIG described technology as central to modern law enforcement, adding that the Police now rely on digital tools and technical expertise to investigate and resolve crimes faster. “With technology, no crime goes undetected for long. Our technical team responds immediately to incidents,” he said.
DIG Fayoade charged Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical commanders to uphold professionalism, transparency, and quick response to complaints. He said public trust is earned through fair treatment, prompt action, and respect for citizens’ rights.
“Policing works best when the people trust us. Respond promptly, treat everyone fairly, and stay close to the community. That is how we get the information we need to prevent crime,” he advised officers.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and share credible information with security agencies. “The South-West will remain safe when we all work together. Timely information from the public helps us act before crimes occur,”
Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, welcomed the DIG and said the tour would boost officers’ skills and operational readiness through shared insights and training.
DIG Fayoade’s South-West tour will continue across the six states in the zone as the Police leadership reviews operations, meets stakeholders, and reinforces partnerships for safer communities.
