Kuje council Chair fumes over indiscriminate waste disposal

The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the FCT, Hon. Danjuma Samuel Shekwolo, has expressed displeasure over indiscriminate waste disposal within the metropolis of the council.
Shekwolo, while speaking to newsmen during inspection tour of evacuation of refuse in the area on Friday, said the indiscriminate waste disposal posed a serious health hazard to residents of the council.
He described the dumpsites as environmental hazards and an eyesore, which he said tarnishes the image and portray the council as a dirty area council.
He his administration cannot afford to see heaps of refuse being littered at strategic places within the metropolis, saying since Kuje Area Council is close to the nation’s capital, he will ensure.that every street are kept clean.
According to him, the current administration is committed to ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more organized environment for residents, which he said prompted him to immediately ordered environmental officials to embark on evaluation of the refuse.
“And we will do everything within our powers to ensure that refuse collection in Kuje is properly structured and managed in a manner that will facilitate easy evacuation and disposal,”he said .
The chairman, however, his administration will collaborate with the Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to achieve sustainable environmental sanitation.
He further emphasized that a healthy environment is essential for economic growth, public health, and community development.
“Because a healthy environment is a productive environment. Hence we cannot continue on this trajectory of indiscriminate waste disposal. As our administration is determined to restoring cleanliness and environmental sanity across Kuje,” he added.
