2027: Ijaw Nation Backs Tinubu, Oborevwori as Funkekeme Hails Reforms, Delta Projects
By Yahaya Idris, Asaba
Strong indications emerged ahead of the 2027 general elections on Thursday as the Ijaw nation threw its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term, citing bold reforms, inclusive governance and massive infrastructure delivery.
Senior Policy Adviser to the Delta State Governor and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Rt. Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, said the endorsement reflects growing confidence in the leadership of both men and the tangible benefits their policies have delivered to the Ijaw people and the wider Niger Delta.
Speaking on Beyond The Headlines on “TVC News”, Solomon described President Tinubu as a courageous reformer whose tough economic decisions are beginning to reposition Nigeria for long-term prosperity.
He said the President’s reforms have widened access to education through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, while power sector reforms have empowered states to build independent electricity generation, transmission and distribution systems.
According to him, these reforms have also significantly boosted revenues available to the Federal, State and Local Governments, improving governance and accelerating development.
“Before these reforms, 21 out of Delta’s 25 local governments struggled to pay salaries. Today, they pay salaries consistently and are executing meaningful projects,” Solomon stated.
He argued that Nigeria cannot afford policy reversals or leadership uncertainty at a critical stage of economic restructuring.
On Governor Oborevwori’s performance, Solomon said the governor has transformed governance in Delta through aggressive infrastructure expansion and equitable project distribution under the M.O.R.E. Agenda.
He cited the approval of the Ojobo Road in Burutu, describing it as historic because the community had existed for more than 200 years without road access.
He also highlighted the reconstruction of the Ohoror–Bomadi Road, the ongoing Ayakoromo Bridge linking Ughelli South and Burutu, alongside major investments in healthcare, education and other critical sectors.
Solomon said the Ijaw endorsement was made in collaboration with the Ijaw National Congress, stressing that the ethnic nationality remains loyal to leaders who deliver measurable progress.
He also praised Tinubu for the appointment of “Tantita Security Services Limited” (https://reference-url-citation.invalid/8), led by Government Ekpemupolo, to protect critical oil infrastructure.
According to him, the move has drastically reduced crude oil theft, increased oil production and strengthened government revenue.
He added that the intervention has created thousands of jobs for youths across the Niger Delta, expanding economic opportunities in the region.
Solomon further commended Tinubu for signing into law the establishment of the Nigeria Maritime University and the Oil and Gas Hospital in Benikrukru, describing both as strategic investments in regional development.
On the lingering controversy over ward delineation in Warri, Solomon applauded Governor Oborevwori’s peace efforts, noting that the governor convened stakeholders from the area’s major ethnic nationalities and urged restraint.
He said the matter was later escalated to President Tinubu, while the governor consistently maintained that peace and coexistence must remain non-negotiable.
“God did not make a mistake by bringing the different ethnic nationalities together in this region. We must live in peace, build trust and move forward together,” Solomon said.
