The governor said the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen the military through improved funding, equipment and personnel welfare would enhance the operational capacity of the Armed Forces to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and combat insecurity.

He particularly commended President Tinubu for approving salary increases for military personnel, describing the measure as an important step towards improving the welfare and morale of officers and soldiers.

The salary adjustments, according to the information presented at the meeting, took effect on September 1, 2026, with increases ranging from 30 to 80 per cent, depending on rank.

Oborevwori Pledges Support for Army Recruitment

The governor disclosed that Delta State had recorded progress in mobilising young people for military and paramilitary careers following the inauguration of the State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services.

The committee is chaired by the state Commissioner for Youth Development.

Oborevwori assured the Nigerian Army that his administration would intensify mobilisation and public sensitisation efforts to help the state meet its current recruitment quota of 1,000 candidates.

He also directed the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, to expand media publicity and public awareness campaigns across the state to encourage eligible youths to participate in the recruitment exercise.

Army Chief Urges Delta Youths to Apply for 92RRI

Earlier, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, represented by Brigadier General BU Ugbuji, commended the Delta State Government for establishing a dedicated committee to support the Nigerian Army’s recruitment awareness campaign.

Shaibu described Delta as the first state, to his knowledge, to establish a committee of this nature under the leadership of a member of the State Executive Council.

He urged eligible youths across the state to take advantage of the ongoing 92 Regular Recruits Intake exercise, emphasising that recruitment would be conducted strictly on merit and in line with the stipulated requirements.

The Army chief’s representative announced that applications for the 92RRI recruitment exercise would close on October 21, 2026.

Interested applicants were advised to register through the official Nigerian Army recruitment portal at https://recruit.army.mil.ng.

He also warned prospective applicants that recruitment into the Nigerian Army is free and cautioned them against paying money to individuals or groups promising to secure enlistment.

Nigerian Army 92RRI Recruitment Requirements

The Army outlined several requirements for applicants seeking enlistment under the regular trades and non-trades categories.

Applicants must be single Nigerian citizens by birth and possess valid National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) records, with matching personal details.

Candidates must also be medically, physically and psychologically fit, have no criminal conviction and possess a valid certificate of state of origin.

The minimum educational qualification is four credits, including English Language, in not more than two sittings in WASSCE, GCE, NECO, NABTEB or NBAIS.

Under the stated requirements, non-trades applicants must be between 18 and 22 years old, while trades applicants must not be above 26 years as of October 21, 2026.

Applicants must also satisfy the prescribed minimum height requirements of 1.68 metres for males and 1.65 metres for females.

Other requirements include a valid birth certificate or acceptable age declaration. Candidates applying under the trades category must provide relevant Trade Test or City & Guild certificates.

Applicants are expected to present original educational certificates and other required documents during screening.

The Army further advised candidates to apply using their state of origin rather than their state of residence. Applicants found to have submitted forged or falsified documents risk withdrawal from the training programme.

Prospective applicants should consult the official recruitment portal for the complete and applicable requirements before submitting their applications.

Special-Skilled Category Opens Opportunities for Technical Applicants

The Nigerian Army has also provided a special-skilled category for applicants with relevant technical expertise.

The category covers specialised skills such as boat operation, marine mechanics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and other technical fields required by the Army.

According to the information presented by the awareness team, applicants under this category may be between 18 and 35 years old, subject to the specific requirements for their chosen skill.

The provision is intended to attract qualified individuals whose technical knowledge and professional experience can support the operational and specialised needs of the Nigerian Army.

Army Highlights Benefits of Military Service

Shaibu said enlistment into the Nigerian Army offers opportunities for career progression, regular salaries and allowances, specialised training and further education.

He also highlighted healthcare benefits for personnel and their families, pension and gratuity provisions, as well as opportunities for post-service careers.

The Army chief urged eligible youths in Delta State to consider the recruitment exercise and pursue careers in the military, describing the Nigerian Army as a professional institution dedicated to national service.

Traditional Rulers, Stakeholders Back Recruitment Campaign

The Nigerian Army awareness team, working alongside members of the Delta State Awareness Creation Committee, has continued its sensitisation campaign across Delta North, Delta South and Delta Central.

The campaign has involved engagements with traditional rulers, community leaders and young people to promote awareness of the recruitment exercise and encourage qualified candidates to apply.

Among the traditional institutions and stakeholders involved were the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Azinge; the Olu of Warri; and the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, alongside other community leaders.

The traditional rulers and stakeholders reportedly pledged to mobilise eligible youths in their respective communities to participate in the recruitment exercise.

They also commended the Delta State Government for its efforts to encourage youth participation in military and paramilitary services.

The state government said it would continue working with relevant institutions and community leaders to expand awareness of recruitment opportunities and support eligible young people seeking careers in the Armed Forces.
