The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has congratulated Governor Sheriff Francis Oborevwori on his conferment with the prestigious Christian Icon Award by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), describing the honour as recognition of exemplary leadership and service to humanity.

The party, under the leadership of its State Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, JP, said the award reflected the importance of integrity, humility, compassion and ethical conduct in public service.

The award was presented to Oborevwori by CAN President, His Eminence, Most Rev. (Dr.) Daniel C. Okoh, during the association’s 50th anniversary celebration at the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

In a congratulatory message issued on October 17, 2026, and signed by the APC Delta State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, Esq., Arenyeka described the recognition as a moment of pride for Delta State and a worthy acknowledgement of the governor’s commitment to public service.

“On behalf of the leadership and entire membership of the All Progressives Congress in Delta State, I heartily congratulate our dear Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, on this prestigious Christian Icon Award conferred on him by the Christian Association of Nigeria,” Arenyeka said.

He added that the award recognised the virtues of faith, integrity, humility and service to humanity.

According to the APC chairman, genuine leadership should be measured not merely by the office a person occupies but by the values upheld, lives touched and positive impact made on society.

He said the honour reinforced the expectation that public service should be guided by conscience, compassion, accountability and a sincere commitment to the common good.

Arenyeka also commended CAN for recognising the importance of ethical leadership and the contribution of public office holders to national development.

He noted that faith and public responsibility could complement each other when leaders demonstrated sincerity, fairness and respect for the dignity of every citizen.

The chairman further described Oborevwori’s emphasis on separating political responsibilities from service to God as a timely reminder that public office should not become an excuse for abandoning moral principles.

“Leadership is a sacred trust, and the greatest measure of success is the positive difference a leader makes in the lives of the people,” he said.

Arenyeka urged the governor to sustain his commitment to peace, progress, justice and inclusive development, stressing that the award should serve as an encouragement to greater service.

He also applauded Oborevwori’s call for unity among different blocs within the Christian community, describing the message as relevant to national cohesion beyond religious boundaries.

According to him, unity, mutual respect, tolerance and constructive engagement are essential to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.

“At a time when our nation needs greater understanding and solidarity, the call for unity among Christians and all Nigerians is both commendable and necessary,” Arenyeka stated.

He urged political leaders and public servants across the country to uphold high standards of character and demonstrate that leadership is fundamentally about service rather than personal recognition.
