Former Delta Governor describes predecessor’s death as devastating, hails his legacy in peacebuilding, infrastructure and human capital development

Immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of his predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, describing the loss as devastating to his family, the Itsekiri Nation and Delta State.

Okowa, in a condolence message to Uduaghan’s wife, Her Excellency Roli Uduaghan, and the entire family, said the death of the former governor had deprived the state of a valuable leader whose contributions to governance and development would remain significant in its history.

He described the late Uduaghan as a consummate public servant, accomplished administrator, medical doctor and visionary leader who dedicated himself to the service of Delta State.

According to Okowa, Uduaghan’s public service journey, from Commissioner for Health to Secretary to the State Government and eventually Governor, was marked by passion, commitment and foresight.

He noted that the former governor’s leadership and development initiatives had left an enduring imprint on the state.

“His peace agenda, infrastructure initiatives, and outstanding commitment to human capital development will remain a significant part of Delta State’s development trajectory,” Okowa stated.

The former governor urged Roli Uduaghan, her children and other members of the bereaved family to draw strength from their faith in God as they navigate the difficult period.

He expressed confidence that the late governor’s contributions to the state would continue to earn him a place in the memories of the people.

“On behalf of my family, I condole Her Excellency, Mrs Roli Uduaghan, her children and the entire Uduaghan family on the unfortunate passing of my predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, at 71,” he said.

Okowa further lamented that Uduaghan’s death came at a time when Delta State and Nigeria needed the experience and contributions of seasoned leaders, particularly amid the prevailing socioeconomic and political challenges facing the country.

“He transited when Delta State, and indeed, Nigeria, needed him more, especially in the prevailing socio-economic and political circumstances in our nation,” he added.

He said the late former governor would be remembered for his years of service, leadership and contributions to the development of Delta State.

Okowa concluded by praying that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and comfort his family, associates and the people of Delta State over the loss.
