The Delta State Government has postponed the Drug-Free Delta Campaign activities scheduled to take place at the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, and Dennis Osadebay University (DOU), Asaba, in honour of the late former governor of the state, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan.
The postponement follows the three-day mourning period declared in honour of the former governor, whose death has thrown Delta State into mourning.
The Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the campaign, which was earlier scheduled to hold at UNIDEL, Agbor, on Tuesday, October 20, and DOU, Asaba, on Thursday, October 22, has been put on hold.
Oghenesivbe said new dates for the campaign activities would be announced within the week, following the postponement necessitated by the state government’s mourning observance.
He apologised to invited guests, institutional partners and other stakeholders for any inconvenience the decision might cause, while appealing for their understanding and continued support for the Drug-Free Delta initiative.
The campaign is part of the state government’s efforts to promote drug-free communities and raise awareness among young people about the dangers associated with drug abuse and substance misuse.
Delta Govt Pays Tribute to Uduaghan
Oghenesivbe described the late Uduaghan as a peace-loving and visionary leader who made significant contributions to the development of Delta State during his tenure as governor.
He said the former governor’s death represented a significant loss to the state, extending the Bureau’s condolences to his immediate family and the people of Delta State.
The Director-General also prayed to God to grant the bereaved family and the entire people of Delta State the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The state government is expected to announce the rescheduled dates for the Drug-Free Delta Campaign at UNIDEL, Agbor, and DOU, Asaba, once arrangements have been finalised.
Until then, invited participants, university authorities, institutional partners and other stakeholders are expected to await further communication from the government.
