The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has pledged to focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging political leaders, party supporters and other stakeholders to shun violence, inflammatory rhetoric and actions capable of undermining peace in the state.

Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu, gave the assurance on Monday in Asaba while unveiling members of the committee to journalists.

Aniagwu named Mr Valentine Onojeguo as Vice Chairman, Hon. Timi Tonye as Secretary, while Olorogun Festus Ahon, Sir Kelly Okolugbo and Mr Jackson Ekwugum were listed as members.

He said the committee would focus on communicating the policies, programmes and performance records of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

According to him, the committee would work closely with journalists to ensure that voters received accurate information about the party’s candidates, policy positions and programmes.

Aniagwu explained that the committee’s responsibility would extend beyond the presidential and governorship candidates to include APC candidates contesting seats in the Delta State House of Assembly, the House of Representatives and the Senate.

“We will stay with the issues,” he said, calling on journalists to collaborate with the committee in communicating the party’s message to the electorate.

He added that the campaign would address governance, public policies and issues affecting the welfare of residents, expressing confidence in the committee’s ability to provide relevant information and respond to questions about the party’s candidates and their programmes.

APC Vows to Present Performance Records

The campaign spokesman said the APC intended to present the records of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations to voters, rather than engage in electoral malpractice.

“We will not get involved in rigging elections. We will show our report card,” Aniagwu said.

He maintained that the party would rely on its candidates’ records, policies and programmes to make its case before the electorate as the 2027 electioneering season approaches.

Aniagwu also urged political leaders and their supporters to exercise restraint in their public statements, warning that inflammatory comments could provoke violence and encourage supporters to take the law into their own hands.

He stressed that the Delta State Government would not tolerate violence, irrespective of the political affiliation or background of those involved.

“The governor has warned earlier that nobody is above the law. We will not tolerate violence, irrespective of the divide anybody belongs to,” he said.

Aniagwu Warns Against Jungle Justice

Aniagwu cautioned against statements that could trigger attacks, reprisals or confrontations at polling units, urging residents to report suspected electoral offences to the appropriate security agencies.

“We are not in a jungle republic. If there is anybody carrying out an action you consider not to be in line with the electoral guidelines, that is why we have the security agencies. Report them and let the law take its course,” he said.

He described calls for jungle justice as a threat to peace and stability, urging political actors and residents to resolve disagreements through lawful channels rather than resort to violence.

The APC campaign spokesman reiterated that the party’s communication strategy would centre on explaining the policies and reforms of the federal and state governments.

He expressed optimism that the programmes being implemented by both administrations would contribute to the development of Delta State, while urging voters to assess the party’s candidates based on their records, policies and commitments.

The committee’s inauguration comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the APC in Delta State signalling its intention to prioritise policy communication and peaceful political engagement.
