In a significant legal development, justice finally caught up with impeached Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu on Tuesday as he was formally served the Appeal Court notice after weeks of deliberate evasion.
This, Edo State House of Assembly has decided to withdraw its interlocutory appeal, choosing instead to concentrate its efforts on the two main appeals related to the ongoing legal battle.
This move signals a strategic shift, with EDHA being keen on addressing the core issues at the heart of the case rather than engaging in procedural delays.
Despite these developments, Marvelous Omobayo remains the present deputy governor, continuing in his role until the court rules on the stay of execution motion and the main appeals, expected in September.
An official of he state government who spoke with our correspondent in Benin City on condition of anonymity said : “This is what actually happened today and all the stories of lies and propaganda the impeached deputy governor has been spreading with his new party APC have all come to nothing. “We had three appeals on the Impeachment issue.
One interlocutory and two against the main judgement
“Phillip had been evading service of the three appeals against the main judgement.
“He walked into court today and he was served with the processes he had been dodging.
“There was, therefore, no further need to proceed with the Interlocutory Appeal which we subsequently withdrew.
“The Two Appeals against the main judgement now formally served on him are still pending and he’s to respond. Disregard their propaganda. That’s all they know how to do.”
