‘A Joke Taken Too Far’ — Babachir Lawal Reacts to Atiku’s Suspension by ADC Faction
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has dismissed the reported suspension of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, by a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as baseless and driven by individuals he labeled as “Indian hemp smokers.”
Reacting to the development, Lawal said the alleged suspension lacks legitimacy and should not be taken seriously by Nigerians or members of the party. He argued that those behind the decision do not represent the authentic leadership or structure of the ADC.

“The so-called suspension is a joke taken too far. It is the handiwork of people who are not grounded in reality,” Lawal stated, adding that the action reflects confusion within the faction making the claim.
The former SGF maintained that Atiku, a prominent political figure and former presidential candidate, remains a key stakeholder in Nigeria’s political landscape and cannot be arbitrarily suspended by what he described as an illegitimate group.

The controversy surrounding Atiku’s purported suspension has sparked reactions across political circles, with questions raised about the authenticity of the faction responsible for the announcement and its authority within the ADC.
