Alleged Coup Plot: FG to Arraign Sylva’s Brother, Others in Abuja Court
The Federal Government is set to arraign Paganengigha Anagha, younger brother of former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, over his alleged involvement in a 2025 coup plot against President Bola Tinubu.
Anagha is expected to be docked on Tuesday at the Federal High Court, Abuja, alongside Sylva’s driver, Musa Mohammed; a plainclothes police officer, Ayuba Reuben; and an escort driver, Friday Lusa Paul.

Although details of the charges were yet to be officially disclosed as of press time, sources within the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice confirmed that the arraignment would take place at Court 12 on April 14.
The case stems from allegations that surfaced last year linking Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State, to a failed coup attempt allegedly aimed at overthrowing the administration of President Tinubu in late 2025.
Security reports had claimed that Sylva was a key financier of the plot, with funds allegedly traced to his accounts ranging from hundreds of millions to tens of billions of naira.
The allegations intensified in October 2025 when operatives, including soldiers and personnel of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), reportedly carried out coordinated raids on Sylva’s residences in Abuja and Bayelsa State.
During the operation, Anagha and others were arrested and taken into custody.
Sylva, who was said to be outside the country at the time, has remained abroad amid reports that he moved across several countries following the incident.

The alleged coup plot was also linked to the detention of about 16 military officers accused of holding secret meetings purportedly aimed at toppling the civilian government.
Further proceedings in the case are expected as the court begins hearing on the matter.
