Umaisha/Ugya Stakeholders Urge Gov Sule, Stakeholders, APC Leadership to Uphold Zoning Rotation

By Yahaya Idris

Stakeholders and youth groups from Umaisha/Ugya Constituency in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have called on the state government and political leaders to uphold the existing zoning arrangement in the interest of equity, fairness, and inclusive representation.

The call was contained in an open letter addressed to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule and key political stakeholders in the constituency, following a meeting held on April 5, 2026, where issues of political representation were extensively discussed.

The concerned youths, drawn from Umaisha, Shege, Dausu, Kanyehu, Ugya, and Katakpa wards, said the meeting resolved that the zoning system, which has guided representation in the constituency over the years, should be strictly maintained.

According to the group, Shege, Ugya, and Umaisha wards have already produced representatives under the arrangement, making it the turn of Kanyehu Ward to occupy the next legislative seat.

They further disclosed that political leaders from Kanyehu Ward have presented Hon. Alhassan Salihu (Ogimba) as their consensus candidate for the position.

The stakeholders emphasized that the zoning formula has been instrumental in promoting fairness, inclusiveness, and peaceful coexistence among the various communities in the constituency.

They warned that any deviation from the established rotational order could undermine the unity, trust, and stability currently enjoyed in the area.

The group, therefore, urged the state government and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the Nasarawa State House of Assembly seat is rotated to Kanyehu Ward in line with the existing agreement.

They noted that their demand is anchored on the principles of equity and justice, adding that every ward deserves equal opportunity to contribute to legislative representation.

The stakeholders also stressed that adherence to the zoning arrangement would help sustain peace and prevent avoidable tensions within the constituency.

They further called for a transparent and credible political process that would inspire confidence among youths and reflect the collective interest of the people.

Reaffirming their commitment to peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue, the group expressed optimism that timely intervention by the government and political leaders would strengthen unity, fairness, and political stability in Umaisha/Ugya Constituency.

Here is the unedited Open Letter:

OPEN LETTER TO THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF NASARAWA STATE, UMAISHA/UGYA CONSTITUENCY LEADERS, AND COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS

A Call for Equity, Fairness, and Inclusive Representation Through Zoning Rotation

Your Excellency,

The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State,

Distinguished Political Leaders and Stakeholders of Umaisha/Ugya Constituency,

We, the concerned youths and stakeholders drawn from Umaisha, Shege, Dausu, Kanyehu, Ugya, and Katakpa wards, respectfully write to you following a crucial meeting held on Sunday, April 5, 2026, where extensive deliberations were undertaken on the issue of equitable political representation within our constituency.

At the end of the meeting, the following resolutions were unanimously reached:

That Shege, Ugya, and Umaisha wards have each taken their respective turns in producing representatives.

That, based on the established zoning arrangement, it is now the turn of Kanyehu Ward to produce the next representative.

That political leaders from Kanyehu Ward have presented Hon. Alhassan Salihu (Ogimba) as their consensus candidate.

We present this open letter as a united voice committed to the peace, unity, and sustainable political development of Umaisha/Ugya Constituency.

Over the years, the zoning system has served as a vital framework for promoting fairness, inclusion, and balanced representation among the various wards.

This arrangement has significantly contributed to fostering harmony, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging across our communities.

However, we deem it necessary to draw urgent attention to the need for strict adherence to the principles underpinning this zoning system.

Any deviation from this established rotational order risks undermining the trust, unity, and stability that the constituency has long enjoyed.

In this regard, we respectfully call on Your Excellency and all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the zoning arrangement is upheld in the interest of equity, justice, and inclusiveness.
