Murtala Yakubu Ajaka Declares Interest in Kogi East Senate Seat, Cites Stakeholders’ Pressure

A former governorship aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, Alhaji Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Kogi East Senatorial seat, following sustained pressure and consultations with stakeholders across the district.
In a statement issued on May 2, 2026, Ajaka said his decision was influenced by the overwhelming support, encouragement, and appeals from elders, political associates, youth groups, and other key stakeholders within Kogi East and beyond.
He noted that the series of engagements held in recent months focused largely on the future of the district, the need for purposeful representation, and the direction of politics in the area.
According to him, a recent visit by a delegation of Kogi East elders to his residence played a significant role in shaping his decision, describing their intervention as a demonstration of unity, wisdom, and shared commitment to the development of the region.
Ajaka stated that his decision to join the senatorial race was taken in deference to the wishes of the people, the prevailing consensus among stakeholders, and the need to promote peace, unity, and collective progress in Kogi East.
He further disclosed that his ambition is anchored on his commitment to strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) and mobilising support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly towards the successful implementation of his policies and the consolidation of efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former SDP chieftain added that he would continue consultations with critical stakeholders, including plans to engage with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, as part of the ongoing political process.
Ajaka assured that he would maintain open communication with the people of Kogi East, stressing that his aspiration would be guided by inclusiveness, unity, and the collective interest of the district.
He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering effective representation and fostering sustainable development if given the mandate.
