His screening is seen as strengthening his chances of securing the APC ticket for the federal legislative position.
Amaewhule, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2025 alongside several lawmakers, has since become a prominent figure within the APC in Rivers State. His defection followed internal challenges within the PDP, after which he aligned with the APC’s agenda at both state and national levels.
Meanwhile, party officials confirmed that the screening process covered aspirants vying for various positions, including National Assembly seats, as the APC intensifies efforts to consolidate its structure in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
