Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed the presidential prospects of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure victory “hands down.”

Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and ex-national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), questioned Obi’s leadership record during his tenure as governor of Anambra State, particularly on security management.

Speaking during a political engagement, Oshiomhole argued that Obi failed to effectively tackle insecurity in Anambra, citing the activities of the notorious Bakassi Boys vigilante group.

According to him, Obi was unable to rein in the group despite being the chief security officer of the state at the time.

“Peter Obi couldn’t fix security in Anambra State. He couldn’t control the Bakassi Boys, who got out of control,” Oshiomhole stated.

The senator further expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s chances in the next presidential election, maintaining that the opposition would struggle to replicate the momentum seen in the 2023 election.

He said Tinubu’s political structure, governance record, and nationwide support base would prove decisive in 2027.

Oshiomhole also took a swipe at Obi’s growing support among young voters, suggesting that the enthusiasm that boosted the Labour Party candidate in 2023 may not translate into similar electoral gains in the next cycle.

“Tinubu will win in 2027 hands down, and this boy will not get the votes he got before,” he added.

The remarks come amid increasing political realignments and early permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with major political actors already positioning themselves for what is expected to be another fiercely contested presidential race.

Obi, who emerged as one of the strongest opposition figures in the 2023 election under the Labour Party platform, has continued to enjoy support from a large segment of Nigerians, especially youths and urban voters, despite criticisms from rivals within the ruling party.
