Oyo Rescued Victims: APM Senator Onawo Urges Leaders to Be Accountable to God, Nigerians
Senator representing Nasarawa South Senatorial District, Mohammed Ogoshi Onawo, has urged leaders at all levels of government to remain accountable to Almighty God and the Nigerian people in their constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property amid the country’s growing security challenges.
The lawmaker, elected on the platform of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), made the appeal while reacting to the successful rescue of pupils and teachers who were abducted in the Ogbomosho area of Oyo State and held captive for about 56 days.
Speaking on Sunday, Senator Onawo commended the efforts of the security agencies, the Federal Government, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for their commitment, maturity, and coordinated approach that led to the safe release of the victims.
According to the senator, the rescue operation demonstrates the importance of collaboration among security agencies and government institutions in tackling insecurity across the country.
While congratulating the authorities involved in the operation, Onawo appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adopt a more comprehensive strategy aimed at securing the release of other Nigerians still being held captive by kidnappers and bandits in different parts of the country.
He also urged security agencies to intensify ongoing operations to ensure that every abducted victim is rescued safely and reunited with their families.
The senator expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives during the period of captivity and the rescue operation, particularly teachers and security personnel who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the course of the mission.
He prayed for the speedy recovery of the rescued pupils and teachers, expressing hope that they would soon overcome the trauma of their ordeal and return to normal life with their loved ones.
Onawo further called on governments at all levels to provide adequate medical, psychological, and financial support for the rescued victims to aid their rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
The Nasarawa South senator also congratulated the national leadership of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) over what he described as a significant security breakthrough.
