In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the Labour Party said the award, presented in Oslo, Norway, recognizes Ajaero’s decades of courageous and selfless commitment to defending workers’ rights, promoting social justice, protecting democratic freedoms, and advancing the dignity of labour.

According to the party, the international recognition extends beyond Ajaero’s personal accomplishment, representing a significant moment of pride for the Nigerian labour movement and the Labour Party, whose relationship with organized labour is rooted in constitutional, historical, and ideological principles.

The statement noted that the Labour Party remains firmly connected with the organized labour movement in its shared pursuit of equity, justice, and improved welfare for Nigerian workers.

The party described Ajaero’s emergence as the first Nigerian labour leader to receive the Arthur Svensson International Prize as evidence of his outstanding contributions to the advancement of workers’ welfare and social justice.

It further praised his more than three decades of active involvement in defending workers against policies considered detrimental to their welfare, as well as his persistent advocacy for fair wages, improved working conditions, and the protection of democratic values.

The Labour Party stated that Ajaero’s courage, resilience, and commitment to labour rights have earned him widespread respect both within Nigeria and internationally.

On behalf of its leadership, members, and supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora, the party congratulated Ajaero on what it described as a historic milestone.
