In Keffi, Angwan Nimzo Community Seeks Government Intervention Over Land Dispute with Nigerian Army

Residents of Angwan Nimzo community in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have appealed to both the Federal Government and the Nasarawa State Government to urgently intervene in a lingering land dispute involving the Nigerian Army.

The community called for a peaceful and lawful resolution of the matter, stressing that the case is already before a competent court of law.

Speaking through their counsel, Barrister Abubakar Abdullahi, members of the community alleged that they have continued to face intimidation and harassment from personnel of the Nigerian Army despite the ongoing legal proceedings.

According to the community, such actions amount to unnecessary pressure on residents who are merely seeking redress through constitutional means.

Barrister Abdullahi maintained that since the matter is already in court, all parties involved should allow the judicial process to run its full course without interference or intimidation.

He argued that any form of harassment undermines the rule of law and infringes on the constitutional rights of citizens to peacefully pursue justice.

“The matter is before the court, and we believe all parties should respect the judicial process. Intimidation and harassment will only heighten tensions and erode public confidence in the rule of law,” Abdullahi stated.

The community therefore called on relevant authorities and security agencies to intervene and ensure that no action is taken that could prejudice the court process or create fear among residents.

Community leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to peace, dialogue, and lawful conduct, insisting that they would not resort to violence despite the challenges confronting them.

“We are law-abiding citizens and will not take the law into our hands,” the leaders said, while appealing for urgent government intervention to prevent further escalation of tensions in the area.

They noted that many families in Angwan Nimzo have lived on the land for generations and appealed to authorities to protect lives, property, and what they described as their ancestral heritage.

Other sympathizers say the calm and lawful disposition of the community reflects its desire for a fair resolution anchored on due process, justice, and respect for the rule of law.

The community leaders further urged the government to act swiftly in de-escalating the situation in order to maintain peace and stability in Keffi and its surrounding communities.
