Enodeh Assumes Leadership, Pledges Wider Awareness Campaign Across 25 LGAs
The Delta State Awareness Creation Committee on Youth Enlistment into Military and Paramilitary Services has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his sustained commitment to youth development, saying the state’s awareness campaign has contributed significantly to increased participation of young Deltans in military and paramilitary recruitment.
The Chairman of the committee and Commissioner for Youth Development, Brave Oyinkore Enodeh, stated this on Monday in Asaba when he formally assumed leadership of the committee in line with its established structure and organogram.
Enodeh said available government records indicated a remarkable increase in the number of Delta youths applying for and gaining admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), the Nigerian Army and other military and paramilitary services.
According to him, the development is a reflection of the state government’s sustained investment in youth development, coupled with strategic public enlightenment and grassroots mobilisation.
He assured the state government that the committee, under his leadership, would consolidate the gains recorded so far while adopting more effective strategies to reach eligible youths across the state.
Over 3,000 Deltans Enlisted
The committee, over the past three years, has intensified grassroots sensitisation, media campaigns and stakeholder engagement across Delta State’s 25 local government areas.
The initiative has involved collaboration with traditional rulers, youth organisations, local government authorities, religious institutions and security agencies to provide prospective applicants with timely information on recruitment opportunities, eligibility requirements and screening procedures.
Government records, according to the committee, indicate improved recruitment outcomes for Delta youths, with more than 3,000 Deltans reportedly enlisted and commissioned through various military entry routes.
These include the Regular Recruit Intake, Direct Short Service Commission and admission into the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Enodeh described the development as encouraging, stressing that the committee would continue to strengthen the awareness campaign to ensure that more qualified young people in the state are able to take advantage of opportunities available in the military and paramilitary services.
Committee to Strengthen Military, Security Partnerships
The commissioner said the committee would sustain and expand its partnership with the Armed Forces and other security agencies while strengthening its grassroots and media outreach.
He explained that the initiative was not only designed to create career opportunities for young Deltans but also to promote discipline, patriotism, skills development and meaningful service to the nation.
“Our responsibility is to ensure that eligible youths across Delta State are properly informed and guided whenever recruitment opportunities arise,” Enodeh said.
He added that improved access to credible information would help reduce misinformation and ensure that qualified applicants understand the requirements and procedures for military and paramilitary recruitment.
Oghenesivbe, Aguonye Brief Commissioner
Earlier, the Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq., and the Permanent Secretary, Directorate of Political and Security Services, Mr Chukks Aguonye, jointly briefed the commissioner on the committee’s terms of reference.
They also reviewed the strategies that have contributed to the progress recorded by the committee over the past three years.
The meeting was attended by the committee’s Secretary, Chief Alfred Origbo; Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Comrade Milton Sagboje; and Pastor Emmanuel Egodo, State Representative.
The committee reaffirmed its commitment to expanding awareness and ensuring that more Delta youths are equipped with the information and guidance required to pursue legitimate opportunities in the military and paramilitary services.
