Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared open the seventh edition of the Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop, DELCOM 2026, with a charge to government communicators and media professionals to embrace digital innovation, professionalism and ethical communication.

The three-day workshop, holding from Tuesday, August 18, to Thursday, August 20, 2026, in Asaba, has as its theme: “Digital Communication and Crisis Management: Building Trust and Credibility for Democratic Governance.”

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Hon. Samuel Oligida, said the workshop was designed to address the rapidly changing communication landscape and strengthen the capacity of professionals responsible for communicating government policies and programmes.

He said the speed at which information now travels through digital platforms makes strategic communication an essential component of modern governance.

According to him, a single piece of information, whether accurate or false, can shape public perception within minutes, making verification, prompt response and responsible engagement imperative.

Oborevwori said government communication must no longer be treated as an afterthought, stressing that effective communication was central to transparency, accountability and public confidence.

He linked DELCOM 2026 to his administration’s MORE Agenda, particularly its emphasis on human capital development and institutional capacity building.

The governor urged participants to acquire practical skills for identifying emerging issues, combating misinformation and disinformation, managing crises and communicating effectively with citizens.

He also charged communicators to uphold accuracy, transparency, consistency and integrity while paying close attention to the concerns of citizens.
