Political activities in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have taken a new turn following the defection of two former APC leaders to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The two politicians are Hon. Lawal Yakubu Karshi and Hon. Yahaya Muazu Dorowa.
Karshi is a former two-term Deputy Chairman of Karu LGA and immediate past Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, while Dorowa served as Executive Chairman of Karu LGA.
The development is being viewed by SDP stakeholders as a boost to the party’s efforts to expand its grassroots structure in Karu.
Karshi Cites Party Internal Issues
Karshi announced his resignation from the APC in a letter addressed to the party’s Chairman in Karshi 1 Ward.
He cited “lack of internal democracy” within the APC as the reason for his departure.
Dorowa also resigned from the APC and joined the SDP.
The move has generated interest among political stakeholders in Karu, with attention now focused on the potential impact of the defections on the local political landscape.
SDP Plans Reception
The SDP leadership in Karu is expected to formally receive the two politicians at a ceremony led by the local government chairman of the party, Hon. Joseph M. Kaura.
Party members and officials from across Karu are expected to attend the event.
SDP stakeholders said the development could help strengthen the party’s grassroots mobilisation and expand its network of political stakeholders.
