A concerned Christian stakeholder in Nasarawa State, Hon. Joseph Kaura, has called on the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, to seek clarification over a statement attributed to Hon. Daniel Oga Ogazi concerning the 2027 governorship election.
Kaura’s call followed the circulation of a video on social media in which Ogazi was reportedly quoted as saying that the time had not yet come for a Christian to become Governor of Nasarawa State, while also urging Christians to support the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reacting to the development, Kaura described the reported comment as capable of generating division within the Christian community if not properly clarified.

He therefore urged the Nasarawa CAN leadership to engage Ogazi and establish the context and meaning of the statement attributed to him.
Kaura also called on CAN to reaffirm its neutrality and ensure that the association is not used as a platform for partisan political interests.
He further urged Christian leaders across the state to sensitise their members on the importance of unity, peaceful participation and political discernment ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Nasarawa is for all of us. 2027 presents an opportunity for Christians to unite and speak with one voice. We must not be swayed by divisive narratives, but remain focused on peace, equity and the progress of our dear state,” he stated.

The stakeholder maintained that Nasarawa State belongs to citizens of all faiths and urged political actors to avoid rhetoric capable of creating religious tension.
He said political discussions ahead of 2027 should focus on development, security, good governance and the welfare of residents.
Efforts to obtain a reaction from Hon. Ogazi as of press time were unsuccessful.
