The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, has assured the family of late Mr. Unity Adeda that the state government will ensure that due process is followed in investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Emu gave the assurance on Saturday when he led senior government officials on a condolence visit to the family.

Adeda, a Level 16 civil servant in the Ministry of Secondary Education, reportedly died following an altercation at his workplace.
The SSG said the incident had saddened the state government, describing the deceased as a senior public servant who had contributed to the state through his years of service.

“The entire state is in a mourning mood, not just the family. He was a very senior officer, but whether he was a senior or junior officer, every life means a lot to the state and the government,” he said.

Emu said the full circumstances of the incident were yet to be established because the police investigation was still ongoing.

He said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had directed the Commissioner of Police to thoroughly investigate the matter.

Panel to Examine Workplace Conflict

The SSG further announced the establishment of an administrative panel made up of serving and retired civil servants.

According to him, the panel would complement, rather than interfere with, the police and judicial processes.

“The essence of the administrative panel is not to conflict with the judicial process or the police investigation. It is to help us rebuild our system and enrich our conflict-management process,” Emu explained.

He said the incident had also highlighted the need for stronger mechanisms for resolving disagreements within the public service.

Emu disclosed that the government had met with labour leaders after the incident and assured them of its commitment to the safety of civil servants.
He appealed to workers to remain calm and continue with their duties while investigations continue.

The SSG also assured the bereaved family that the government would not allow the justice process to be compromised.

“There will be no perversion of justice as far as this case is concerned,” he said.

Family Calls for Justice

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Godwin Akamakusi, the deceased’s in-law, appreciated Governor Oborevwori and the state government for the condolence visit.

Akamakusi urged the government to ensure that the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death were thoroughly investigated and that justice was served.
